i have black hair and i want to dye it brown hair like this dude(picture below)

Ok as a stylist, I think its best if you have a professional do it. They can do a double process with base color and highlights at the same time and give you even results. I think that if you went with a box color it wont be enough of a lift for you and you will come out a brassy or orangey color. I think the color is great in the picture but my gut says professional assistance is required! :) hope this helps!

You'll never get your hair from black to that color using store bought color. My advice is go to a professional and even then if your hair is "black" get ready because to keep it up will be a lot of maintenance.

black hair is almost impossible to go brown, even though its just 2 levels above your haircolor. I know, I have jet black hair. I tried using the box brown color and it turned my hair, well black with hints of warmness under the sun. Basically it was still black.

The only way to achieved brown hair from black is to bleach it first and dye it using an ash brown or neutral brown shade. Bleached black hair is orange, ash brown will change it into neutral brown while neutral brown will change it into a nice warm brown.

Bleaching and colouring is very tricky coz the hair near your scalp will bleach differently from the hair and the ends. so you may end up with two different brown shade.

Black hair is easier to be turned red, you can get a box of red dye and it will almost always turn red. I tried copper brown, and it did turn copper brown.

So yeah, go to the salon, even though its expensive, at least you get the color you want.

you can go where you are going to get the hair die and look at the back of the box and it will have a pic of the color of your hair and than what color it will look and after you find what color you wont you can test it on a little bit of your hair before you die all of it,,,,,,,,,
